Canyon Lake allure soars as a holiday destination

Thousands of Central Texans kicked off the unofficial start of summer Saturday with a trip to this huge cool-water reservoir, looking to camp, picnic, boat, ski or swim. With nearby lakes Dunlap, McQueeney, Nolte and Placid closed for repairs and removal of debris from October’s flooding, hundreds of swimsuit-clad folks drove into the Hill Country 30 miles northeast of San Antonio and found what they were looking for at Canyon. John Bostick of Austin, picnicking with his wife and three children at Jacob’s Creek Park, said the partly cloudy afternoon made for a nice day on what could have been a sunshine-filled scorcher.
